It's interesting how we humans have been told that we can defy the change of seasons by plowing through with "discipline". But all other living things in nature change with the season, so why wouldn't we as well? I think "routine" and "discipline" go hand in hand. But if we also add "adaptation" we are less likely to fall into spirals of disappointment for these arbitrary metrics of "success". Lots of quotations, I know. But this is all to say, we are of nature, therefore, we deserve the allowance of changing with the seasons.
hitting the nail on the head (as always). i love this line: “we are of nature” — so true, and as the seasons change, the earth renews itself, animals shift their patterns, i think it would be lunacy to believe that we don’t as well. thanks for reading <3
I've got the sort of brain that loves a routine, following steps, and checking things off the list. Unfortunately, when things inevitably go wrong inevitably, I experience a bit of a negative cascade effect that throws off the rest of my routine. So I enjoy the sentiment of letting go of routine. Lots of things are about to change in my life, and I will have to let go of almost every routine I've set up. Curious to see how I'll respond to that. All that to say, I loved reading this. Thank you for sharing!
hey Olivia, thanks for reading and offering your insight on routines :) I completely agree, life is just as much about adapting as it is about having our solid anchors/routines that keep us feeling moored when our circumstances shift. I’m excited to keep up with your journey as you move across the world and inevitably expand + shift your routine!
